New LI Housing: Another Hicksville Project, But Sayville and Woodmere in Limbo

Hicksville: Terwilliger & Bartone plan 106 apartments and 4,000 square feet of retail in a $61M project as part of the Hicksville DRI plan supported by New York State. Located near the busy Hicksville LIRR station, it includes underground parking and amenities. 10% of the units will be designated as affordable housing at reduced rents, reported LI Business News.

Sayville: "A lot has changed in the four years since the Island Hills Golf and Country Club property in Sayville was last the subject of a public hearing. But it still looks like an uphill fight for the developers," reported Newsday. "The size and scope of the proposal for the 114 acres has shrunk, from 1,365 rental units to a mix of 576 rentals and 314 homes for sale. The development’s name changed from Greybarn to South Bay Village. Developers Gregg and Mitchell Rechler spent months working with an advisory committee to try to include community input in their newest plans." LIBOR has testified in support of this new plan.

Woodmere: "A controversial plan to build housing on the former Woodmere Club site has gained supporters as the Hempstead Town Board considers a zoning change that would allow a developer to build multifamily housing there... New Jersey-based developers Robert Weiss and Efrem Gerszberg last year proposed a revised plan for the property that would set aside large swaths as open space while building 160 units of age-restricted condominiums in two buildings connected by a clubhouse," reported Newsday. LIBOR supports this revised plan that comes after years of lawsuits and stalling.
