December 9, 2011 - West Babylon, NY - The Long Island Board of REALTORS® Inc. (LIBOR) has named Don Scanlon, of Century 21 American Homes in Wantagh, as 2012 Board President. Don was sworn into office by close friend, Cathy Nolan; who also serves as legal counsel to LIBOR and was a Past MLSLI and LIBOR President. The installation took place during the association’s recent Installation Gala held at the Crest Hollow Country Club. Don will serve as the 71st President of the Long Island Board of REALTORS®.
Don had the following to say during the Installation Gala, “Our membership, once at almost 30,000 members and now just under 19,000, is asking for our help in this changing market, and we cannot let them down! We must continue to be innovative in the services and educational programs we provide to our members to help them not only survive, but grow their business.”
Don graduated from the University of Dayton in 1969 with a degree in education, and started in the Real Estate business in 1984 as a part time agent while still teaching school.
By 1986 he received his Brokers License and became the manager of an office, and in 1987 he became the owner Broker of Your Home Realty/Century 21 Your Home in Wantagh, which then merged with Century 21 American Homes, where Don remains as one of the Owner/Brokers.
Don’s service to the Board and the MLSLI over the years is extensive. He served as the MLSLI President in 2007 and prior to that, served as the MLSLI Treasurer and as the Vice President for Nassau County. He has served on the LIBOR Executive Committee since 2008, serving as Treasurer and as Vice President of Nassau. There are many committees that Don has served on throughout the years, such as Technology, Budget and Finance, Advertising, Rules, Professional Standards, Legal Assistance, Governance, Education Chairperson in 2006, RPAC, Legislative, and more. In 2008, he received the prestigious LIBOR Realtor®-Broker of the year award. He was also named as this year’s recipient of the MLSLI Tasso Award.
Don is also a NYSAR director since 2004, Vice Chairperson for the State Association’s Professional Standards Committee in 2007, Chairperson in 2008 and Faculty Development Sub Committee Chairperson in 2011.
Don is a New York State Certified Instructor for Real Estate Licensing, and Continuing Education. He has two children, Kelly and Michael, and a grandson. In his free time, Don is an avid boater and enjoys the waters surrounding Long Island.
