Doreen Spagnuolo, General Counsel of Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR), has been named an honoree of the 2021 Leadership in Law, In-House Counsel Award by Long Island Business News (LIBN).
The Leadership in Law Award recognizes attorneys who exemplify the following traits — experience, dedication, hard work, skill, tenacity, compassion and excellence — and is dedicated to those individuals whose leadership, both in the legal profession and in the community, has had a positive impact on Long Island.
Spagnuolo serves as the General Counsel for LIBOR, a position she has held for the past thirteen years. A leader in her field, Spagnuolo founded the legal department of LIBOR, a preeminent regional REALTOR® trade association that serves over 28,000 real estate professionals throughout Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Working as General Counsel for LIBOR, and its subsidiary the Multiple Listing Service of Long Island (MLSLI) prior to the regionalization to OneKey® MLS in 2020, has placed Spagnuolo in the uniquely distinctive position of being involved in strategic decisions at the highest level, and to intimately understand the business of both companies, internally and externally.
Internally, Spagnuolo is responsible for understanding the business function of each department and how it works to meet the Association’s goals. Managers and staff from more than ten departments seek her counsel routinely, on issues ranging from legal advice and strategic decision-making, to reviewing and revising written proposals and correspondence.
Through her work with the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of LIBOR, Spagnuolo has earned a remarkable reputation for expertly and effectively presenting, communicating, and advising leadership in all areas affecting the REALTOR® community to ensure their continued business success. She is committed to staying ahead of real estate industry trends; researching issues and problem solving; advocating for the rights of members locally and nationally; and protecting consumer private property rights.
In addition, Spagnuolo continues to work tirelessly throughout the pandemic to keep all updated on the latest COVID-19 related requirements for safe business practices to protect members, staff and the public.
Most recently, Spagnuolo was honored by National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) with the REALTOR® association Certified Executive (RCE) designation, which recognizes exceptional efforts made by REALTOR® association executives. RCE is the only professional designation designed specifically for REALTOR® association executives.
Spagnuolo brings more than 30 years of legal experience to her role as General Counsel, having worked prior as a partner for Feldman, Rudy, Kirby & Farquharson, P.C. and Assistant District Attorney for the Queens County District Attorney’s Office, amongst other law related positions. She received her Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law in 1990, and is admitted to practice law in New York and Connecticut.
“As General Counsel for a large trade association, Doreen is an expert in the not-for-profit business, as well as our members’ business - real estate. She masters both fields with accomplished skill and trusted authority,” said LIBOR CEO Tessa Hultz. “Doreen does more than just advise, she helps LIBOR make decisions that are not only legally sound, but for the best benefit of the organization, members, and our communities. We are fortunate to have Doreen at the helm of our legal department and congratulate her on this well-deserved honor.”
