Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2021 REALTOR® Scouting Scholarship Award: Thomas Bruggemann of West Babylon, Hanna Carey of Wantagh, Carly McCaffrey of West Islip, Mary Menger of Garden City, William Reed of Port Jefferson Station, and Jack Sadler of Farmingdale.
Through this annual scholarship program, LIBOR awards six $1,000 merit-based scholarships to three New York Eagle Scouts and three New York Gold Girl Scouts who are in the graduating class of that respective year. Eagle Scout and Gold Girl Scout are the highest rank and achievement attainable in the Scouting programs of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and the Girl Scouts of the USA. The scholarship recipients are awarded for their notable leadership, scouting experience, and community involvement.
The 2021 recipients have been a part of noble endeavors from revitalizing their communities with park restorations and the construction of a 9/11 First Responders Memorial, to creating annual food drives and raising awareness about food insecurity on Long Island.
The areas of study amongst this exceptional group of young women and men include, adolescent education, finance and biology at schools including SUNY New Paltz, University of Notre Dame, SUNY Fredonia and Manhattan College.
Along with the scholarship application, candidates were asked to submit an essay on “What HOME means to me.” The results were a heart-warming array of special memories of family and home life on Long Island. This year’s recipients also stressed the importance of having a safe home, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and New York’s state issued pause in 2020.
“LIBOR is honored to affiliate itself with the Girl and Boy Scouts of America, whose goal is to build the character of young women, men, girls and boys, who then go on to become inspiring leaders in our communities,” said LIBOR President Susan Helsinger. “Attaining an Eagle and Gold scout ranking is a demonstration of physical and mental fortitude and an achievement that you carry lifelong. Congratulations to our award recipients on this special accomplishment.”
