Long Island Board of REALTORS® Honors Carol Gallo-Turschmann with 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award

Nov 27, 2017

The Long Island Board of REALTORS®, Inc. (LIBOR) is proud to announce that the remarkable 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award has been presented to Carol Gallo-Turschmann of Bill Gallo Realty. With almost forty years in the industry, Carol has left an irrefutable mark on the real estate profession and her community at large. The announcement was made on November 21, 2017 at the association’s Annual Installation and Awards Dinner held at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.

Carol began her Real Estate career 39 years ago, when she joined her father’s business, Bill Gallo Realty in 1978.  When her father retired, Carol purchased the company and became one of a very select group of female Broker-Owners on Long Island, who have maintained long term success. Since then, she has demonstrated a lifelong dedication to the Long Island Board of REALTORS®, the Real Estate Industry in general, and her community.  Carol holds GRI and SRES designations.

Throughout her career, Carol has been an extremely active contributor to LIBOR, the Multiple Listing Service of Long Island (MLSLI™), the New York State Association of REALTORS® (NYSAR), the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and the Valley Stream community.  LIBOR recognized this in 2006 when they presented her with the prestigious LIBOR Broker of the Year Award. In 1997, the MLSLI Board of Directors awarded Carol the Tasso Harismides Award for her "spirited contributions" to MLSLI meetings.  That same year, the Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce recognized Carol for her contributions to the community by presenting her the Businesswoman of the Year Award. She served as President of the Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce from 1999 - 2001 and currently serves on the Board of Directors as Past President. Valley Stream Mayor Ed Cahill presented Carol with an "Official Citation of Recognition and Commendation for her years of ‘Outstanding Community Service.”

Carol joined LIBOR in 1978 and has served on the LIBOR Board of Directors since 2004.  She has continued to serve on many committees over the years including Legislative, RPAC, Legal Assistance, Grievance, Professional Standards, and Public Relations to name a few.

However, Carol is most proud of her work as Chairperson of the LIBOR Commission Escrow Act (CEA) Committee from 2003 through 2011.  (She also served as NYSAR Vice Chair of the CEA Working Group). Through her tireless efforts, over 8 years, Carol helped NYSAR prepare a bill that was finally able to pass and become law.  The Commission Escrow Act is the first and only bill passed in New York State that protects REALTORS®' commissions.

Carol was elected to serve as President of the LIBOR Nassau South Shore Chapter for three separate terms, 2008, 2009, and 2016, VP in 2005, 2007, 2013 and 2014, Secretary in 2004, and Director in 2003 and 2006.

NAR appointed Carol to serve on the NAR Land Use Property Rights and Environment Committee and the 2006 Housing Needs Committee.  Recognizing the importance of the legislative process, Carol has been an RPAC Sterling R for over 10 years.

Carol has also served on the NYSAR Board of Directors since 1997, currently holding a three year appointment through 2018. In addition to her work as Vice Chair of the CEA Working Group, Carol has served on numerous NYSAR committees as well.

Carol has dedicated 30 years of service to the MLSLI. In 1987, she was elected to the MLSLI BOD as Director/Zone 6 Chairperson, and continues to serve to this day. She served as MLSLI Advertising Chair from 1998 – 2001, co-chair and member of numerous other committees.

Today Carol will continue to serve as 2018 MLSLI Zone 6 Chairperson, 2018 LIBOR Director and 2018 NYSAR Director, together with running her successful independent Real Estate Business, Bill Gallo Realty and attending to her beloved family.

Carol is married to her husband Alan for 50 years. They reside in Valley Stream. Together they have raised three successful children and spend whatever free time they can with their two beautiful granddaughters.
