The Long Island Board of REALTORS® Inc. (LIBOR) named REALTOR® Barbi Schwartzberg of Douglas Elliman in Syosset, as the recipient of the esteemed 2019 Community Service Award. The award was presented at the association’s Annual Installation and Awards Dinner held on November 26, 2019 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.
Whether she’s advocating for her real estate clients or the special needs students in her school district, Barbi Schwartzberg is a highly motivated and passionate person. She has enjoyed a successful career with Douglas Elliman Real Estate for the past 13 years and was recently the recipient of their Gold Award. In the top eight percent of agents companywide, above all, Barbi prides herself on the honesty and integrity she brings to all her professional relationships.
Previous to earning the trust of homeowners, Barbi worked on Wall Street entering as an eager college grad where she loved the fast pace of equity trading. In 2001 she chose to focus on raising her two daughters and exited the financial world. When her youngest Amanda was less than two years old, Barbi and her husband began to notice some developmental delays. After intensive research and evaluation, Amanda was diagnosed with autism.
Although the school district (Plainview-Old Bethpage) where Barbi resides has an excellent special needs program, she saw the potential for even greater support for all differently abled students. Driven by the desire to give back to all those who were so supportive to her in the community, Barbi co-founded SNAP, The Special Needs Autism Program. Along with Paige Bravin, a dear friend whose daughter also has autism, they developed the non-profit whose mission is creating and providing opportunities for the special needs population so they may reach their fullest potential and become productive members of their community.
Barbi earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Hofstra University in 1988. A Brooklyn native, she currently resides in Plainview, New York with her husband Jay and their two daughters, Nicole and Amanda.
“I am extremely honored to receive the LIBOR Community Service Award. Thank you to the awards committee and congratulations to all my fellow recipients.” said Barbi.
