Volunteer with LIBOR to Support Long Island Homeless Coalition Backpack Pirates Day

LIBOR is a proud sponsor of Long Island Coalition for the Homeless (LICH) Back Pack Pirates initiative, an annual one-day summer camp experience for children ages 5-13 who live in shelters. 250 homeless and at-risk children will be invited to spend a day at a summer camp, packed with fun-filled activities like face painting, arts and crafts, swimming, a treasure hunt, and more.

LIBOR will be on-site supporting LICH during the event and is seeking 10 volunteers to help on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 in Wheatley Heights (Exact location to be shared with confrimed volunteers). (Rain date is Thursday, August 27.) Please only register if you are available to volunteer on both dates.

Volunteers will assist wherever help is needed throughout the day, including supporting activity groups, helping at the clothing tent, and providing general event assistance. Volunteers will also help ensure children's basic needs are met by keeping an eye out for water, bathroom breaks, sunscreen, shade, and snacks. Specific assignments will be provided on the day of the event based on volunteer needs.
