LI Senate Primaries: Housing Advocate Bynoe Defeats Darling; Keiserman Faces Martins

Jun 26, 2024

Senate District 6 (Hempstead, Rockville Centre, Freeport): Nassau County Legislator and long-time housing advocate Siela Bynoe of Westbury defeated Assemblymember Taylor Darling of Uniondale 53-46% in the combative Democratic Primary to replace State Senator Kevin Thomas (D). With two decades of work in private lending, non-profits like LI Housing Partnership, and public housing administration in North Hempstead and Huntington, Bynoe is now the strong favorite in November for this heavily Democratic district. The Republican nominee is Thomas Montefinise, a Deputy County Attorney from Oceanside.

Senate District 7 (North Hempstead, Glen Cove, Oyster Bay): Kim Keiserman, a former high school teacher from Port Washington, easily defeated commercial property manager Brad Schwartz of Roslyn by a 75-25% margin. Keiserman will be the Democratic nominee against State Senator Jack Martins (R). While incumbent Martins is the favorite here, the race could get close given this year's strong showing for newly-returned US Representative Tom Suozzi (D) to replace alleged felon George Santos (R).
