Apr 9, 2025

To kick of National Fair Housing Month, REALTORS® met with Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine (R) ahead of his State of the County speech, talking about the issues affecting homeownership on Long Island like affordability, infrastructure and water quality, and fair housing. LIBOR thanked Romaine for affirming his commitment to increasing housing options in Suffolk County to ensure more affordability and greater fairness for consumers of all backgrounds.

"Romaine’s office said the county will keep taxes within that 2% cap in next year’s budget and seek to reduce debt. The county is also attempting to further improve its bond rating to reduce interest rates on future borrowing... Romaine is also seeking improvements to the county’s Department of Social Services, public safety, roads, and infrastructure," reported Newsday.

The popular Suffolk Republican also made clear to Newsday that fiscal discipline, while increasing support for housing and infrastructure upgrades that support his economic development agenda, remains his top focus. News 12 Long Island has the full speech viewable here.
